'How to Grow Your Own Mushrooms" class offered April 28 at WDC High School

Wadena-Deer Creek Community Education is offering a "How to Grow Your Own Mushrooms" class on Saturday, April 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Wadena-Deer Creek Middle/High School, room 1014.

This class will teach how to raise your own mushrooms, including shiitake, wine cap, oyster mushrooms, and lion's mane. Information will be shared on growing and using native mushrooms, as well as sources for supplies. Techniques for identifying edible mushrooms in the wild as well as how to harvest and preserve them will also be discussed.

Participants will inoculate logs with mushroom spores to take home with them to grow. Participants are encouraged to bring a notebook and pen to take notes. Please wear clothing that can get dirty. All of the other necessary supplies will be provided by the instructor. Cost: $50. Lunch provided. To pre-register, call Dana at (218) 632-2323. Registration deadline is April 20.

Ron and Margaret Stelck live near Cushing. They have been raising mushrooms for eight years now. Ron now teaches classes on raising mushrooms at various locations throughout the area while Margaret teaches how to preserve and use the mushrooms.
