Bicyclist killed in crash with pickup in Wadena

A 39-year-old Detroit Lakes man was killed when crossing Hwy 10 Thursday night in Wadena on his bicycle.

The bicyclist, Daniel John Cermack, was traveling north on Second Street and crossed over Hwy 10 against a red light, striking a 2009 Chevy Silverado broadside that was traveling west, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report.

The crash occurred at about 11:15 p.m. with wet conditions as a rain and sleet mixture was falling.

The driver of the truck, Lyle W. Bethel, 67, of Dent and his passenger Elaine M. Tuma, 68, of Perham, were not injured in the crash. Alcohol was not a factor, concerning the pickup truck occupants, the report stated. The state patrol report stated it was unknown if alcohol was involved concerning Cermack.

The Wadena County Sheriff's Office, Wadena Police and Tri-County Ambulance assisted the state patrol at the scene.
